MOSCOW, October 22 - RAPSI. The Moscow City Court has postponed until November 14 the consideration of an appeal filed by Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov's attorney Andrei Krasnenkov against the dismissal of his defamation lawsuit against the Memorial human rights center, the court told the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI/rapsinews.com) on Monday.

The court passed the ruling to grant the parties time to familiarize themselves with the additions to the appeal and the new evidence - and, specifically, the conclusions of linguistic experts.

The lawsuit seeks to recognize as defaming five statements in the article titled, "Ramzan Kadyrov's Representative Confuses Journalists," which was published on the center's website. He also demands compensation of moral harm worth 500,000 rubles ($16,175).

The center's representative defended their view in court, noting that their statements were not groundless. They are confident Krasnenkov attempted to confuse the media and the investigation.

Krasnenkov said Kadyrov filed the lawsuit against Memorial in 2010, but later requested its suspension until the hearing of the case against the human rights center's head Oleg Orlov had ended.

Investigators accused Orlov of defaming Kadyrov after the murder of human rights activist Natalya Estemirova. The Memorial employee and award-winning human rights activist was kidnapped in Grozny on July 15, 2009. Her body was later found in Ingushetia.

Her murder incited a public uproar. Orlov spoke publicly of Kadyrov's alleged involvement in her death, after which the court hearings began. In January 2012, the Moscow Khamovnichesky District Court closed the case due to the decriminalization of the relevant Criminal Code article.

The Moscow Tverskoy District earlier found that Orlov's statements defamed Kadyrov's honor, dignity and business reputation. He was fined 20,000 rubles ($647). Memorial was fined 50,000 rubles ($1,617).
