MOSCOW, January 29 (RAPSI) – The Russian Family Code acknowledges marriages only as legally registered matrimonial alliances between men and women, with no exceptions, the Human Rights Commissioner Tatiana Moskalkova has said.

The ombudsman’s remark concerns an incident in a Moscow civil registration office where two men received passport stamps confirming that they were married in Denmark. Earlier, media reported that the applicants got married in accordance with Danish laws and then brought their passports as well as official translations of the documents to the office.

The Interior Ministry noted that administrative cases were launched against the applicants over causing deliberate damage to the passports. Documents containing stamps of registered same-sex marriage were confiscated.
