MOSCOW, May 22 (RAPSI) - The Moscow Prosecutor's Office has asked the court to shut down the Russian branch of the International Committee on the Fight against Terrorism, Organized Crime and Corruption (ICOCRIM) chaired by Anatoly Remizov, the Prosecutor General's Office said on its website on Wednesday.

"The organization routinely hired and paid individuals, issued them service IDs and offered them the opportunity to wear various types of uniforms under the guise of providing assistance to the law enforcement agencies in their fight against terrorism, organized crime and corruption. Some of these uniforms are confusingly similar to the official uniforms and insignia of (the Russian) military forces and other law enforcement agencies," the statement says.

In late November 2012, the Moscow department of the Interior Ministry reported that ICOCRM employees who claimed to be members of law enforcement and security services extorted $1.5 million from a Muscovite. Nine people, including Anatoly Remizov, were arrested in connection with that case.

The International Committee on the Fight against Terrorism, Organized Crime and Corruption (ICOCRIM) was established in 1998 to assist law enforcement and security agencies of UN and EU member countries.
