MOSCOW, June 8 (RAPSI) – The Federation Council, Russia’s upper house of parliament, on Wednesday approved a package of bills on non-compliance by the Russian Federation with the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

According to the draft laws, Russia will not abide by the ECHR rulings delivered after March 15, 2022, when an application concerning the country’s withdrawal from the Council of Europe was lodged.

Moreover, compensations assessed by the court in Strasbourg will be paid only in rubles and transferred to the Russian banks’ accounts.

The lower house of parliament, the State Duma, adopted the legislative proposal on June 7.
