MOSCOW, February 5 (RAPSI) – The legal status of senior magistrate judges must be formalized in federal legislation, according to Chairman of the Council of Judges of Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan Roman Gafarov.

The institution of senior justices of peace requires unification but without amending the Law on Magistrate Judges in the Russian Federation, Gafarov said during the meeting of chairs of Russia’s regional judicial councils on Wednesday.

According to the speaker, presently the activity of senior justices of peace is regulated only on a regional level. Thus, in Tatarstan there is a special provision on senior magistrate judges in court districts, he noted.

He pointed the significance of the effective work of magistrate judges as citizens attitude towards judicial systems is formed at this stage.
