MOSCOW, June 21 (RAPSI) – Chairman of the Presidential Council for Human Rights Mikhail Fedotov believes that decriminalization of the Criminal Code’s Article on punishment for drug crimes is fraught with evident danger.

Improvement of the fight against drug throwing in the strongest terms is much more important in solving the problem, the statement made by Fedotov reads.

On Thursday, President Vladimir Putin said during the annual television call-in show that even though more than a quarter of all inmates are convicted of drug crimes, liberalization of relevant legislation is out of the question. He also pointed the necessity of control over law enforcement actions concerning illegal drug trafficking.
