MOSCOW, July 7 (RAPSI) - Three Russian police generals, including an assistant to the Interior Minister, have been detained until September 5 on abuse of authority charges related to misappropriating a fund based in Saint Petersburg, the Moscow Basmanny District Court’s press service has told RAPSI.

Lieutenant General Sergey Umnov, Major General Alexey Semyonov, the head of St. Petersburg’s police, and Major General Ivan Abakumov, a former deputy of St. Petersburg’s police, face prison terms of up to ten years if found guilty.

The fourth defendant is Elena Kopyeva, the senior court bailiff of one of the St. Petersburg bailiffs department. She was also put in detention.

Investigators believe the defendants have fiddled with the money of the Fund for the St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region Directorate of the Interior Ministry.

The case is being investigated by the Investigative Committee of Russia.
