MOSCOW, June 17 (RAPSI) — Google's Russian subsidiary filed for bankruptcy as the branch had been fined several times and its bank account had been seized by Russian authorities.

The bankruptcy petition has been registered by the Moscow Commercial Court.

The branch announced plans to file for bankruptcy in May stating it can no longer pay staff, suppliers, vendors and meet other financial obligations.

“Since March 22, 2022, it foresees its own bankruptcy and inability to fulfill its monetary obligations, demands to pay severance payments and (or) the remuneration of staff working or previously working under an employment contract, and (or) the obligation to make mandatory payments within the prescribed period”, the May statement reads.

Last December, a 7.2-billion-ruble (about $126 million at the time of writing) turnover fine was imposed on Google LLC by Russian authorities. The subsidiary was found guilty of non-compliance with the order of the restriction of access to information prohibited by Russian law.
