MOSCOW, October 6 (RAPSI) – A probe was launched into alleged tortures of children in the Sredneuralsk Women’s Monastery outside of Russia’s Yekaterinburg where earlier schemonk Sergius was defrocked, the Investigative Committee’s press service reports.

According to the preliminary investigation, from 2004 to 2019, yet unidentified persons locating in the convent intentionally and systematically beat seven minors and used other violence against them. Therefore, they inflicted physical and psychological sufferings to the children.

Illegal actions against four children were committed in the absence of their legal representatives, investigators claim.

A case is opened over negligence and torture.
