MOSCOW, December 16 (RAPSI) – A former member of the Moscow public monitoring committee Denis Nabiullin received a 4-year suspended sentence in a fraud case on Monday, RAPSI reports from the Presnensky District Court of Moscow.

Nabiullin was convicted of large-scale fraud and fraud attempt. Earlier, he pleaded guilty in full.

Prosecutors demanded a 5-year prison term for the defendant.

According to investigators, on December 6, 2017, Nabiullin received over 29 million rubles (over $460,000 rubles) from a person involved in the operative search activity. In exchange for it, the public monitoring committee’s member promised assistance in medical clearance of an arrested man and later help in his release from detention. However, he did not have such powers and wanted to misappropriate the money.

Case papers also read that in November 2017, the defendant visited one prosecuted man in detention and received $50,000 from him for possible release from detention because of illness. The money was transferred to the accounts of an organization founded by the public member.
