MOSCOW, December 11 (RAPSI) – The Moscow City Court has sentenced ex-police officer Alexey Zhitnyuk to 13 years in prison for transferring classified information to an alleged Norwegian spy, the court’s press service has told RAPSI.

The man has been found guilty of treason. Additionally, he has been deprived of his rank of senior police lieutenant. His case has been heard behind closed doors because of secrecy.

According to investigators, Zhitnyuk has given secret documents containing information on Russian navy to Frode Berg, a citizen of Norway. Berg was arrested when receiving the documents in December 2017 and charged with espionage.

In November, the Moscow City Court extended detention of Berg until February 5.
