KIEV, June 24 (RAPSI) - Ukraine’s National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting filed a lawsuit in court seeking the suspension of the Russian TV Center-International channel in Ukraine, according to the council’s website.

Moreover, the National Council lodged a request with the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office to terminate broadcasting of LifeNews and REN TV channels.

Four Russian TV channels were suspended in Ukraine on March 25, including: Channel One. Global Network, RTR-Planeta, Russia 24, and NTV Mir.

In late April, Ukraine’s National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting asked the court to declare the channels’ programs conflicting with the European Convention on Transfrontier Television and a law of Ukraine.

The All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company’s (VGTRK) lawyer earlier filed a request to revoke the temporary suspension of the channels but the motion was rejected.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry defined suspension of the channels as infringement upon freedom of the media. Director General of the Channel One Konstantin Ernst called on the Ukrainian authorities to revoke the decision conflicting with the rules of international law and subscribers’ interests.
