MOSCOW, April 15 - RAPSI. Turkish pianist Fazil Say has received a 10-month prison sentence suspended for five years for insulting the Muslim values of Turkish citizens, local media reported on Monday.

The Istanbul court that heard the case found Say guilty of making a series of insulting posts on Twitter that ridiculed the Islamic call for prayer. The court began hearing the case in October.

Turkey's religious authorities and prosecutors accused him of insulting Islam and inciting religious hatred, which could have earned him 18 months behind bars. Say, 43, who has played with the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and others, is one of the most consistent critics of the Recep Tayyip Erdogan government, accusing it of undermining secularism in state policy.

Say earlier denied the accusations.

The musician did not attend the hearing. His attorney, Meltem Akyol, said she will insist on a review of the court decision.
