MOSCOW, December 30 - RAPSI. A court has registered an appeal filed by a popular online publication against the dismissal of its lawsuit over a trademark registration, the court told the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI/rapsinews.com).

The Moscow Commercial Court on August 10 upheld the patent watchdog's refusal to register gazeta.ru trademark. The appellate court later affirmed the judgment.

The Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks (Rospatent) refused to register the "газета.ру," "газета.ru" and "gazeta.ru" trademarks for Gazeta.Ru in February.

Rospatent reasoned that the trademarks lack distinctiveness and are confusingly similar to the "Gazeta" trademark already registered on behalf of an independent non-profit organization.

Gazeta.Ru is a well-known online portal in Russia, established in 1999.
