MOSCOW, November 22 - RAPSI, Natalya Belova. An appellate court awarded $3.52 million in insurance recovery to Federal Grid Company of Unified Energy System (FGC UES) from Alfa Group's insurance division, the court told the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI) on Tuesday.

FGC UES was established in 2002 as part of Russia's power engineering reforms. The company controls the country's main transmission lines. The government holds a major stake in FGC UES.

AlfaStrakhovanie is part of the Alfa Group financial and industrial consortium. It offers over 100 insurance products, including life and accident insurance. It runs over 390 regional branches.

The court has satisfied the appeal filed by FGC UES and dismissed the first-instance commercial court's ruling, according to which the court recovered only 8.558 million rubles ($275,750) from the insurance company as opposed to the 109.5 million rubles ($3.52 million) initially claimed.

FGC UES asked the court to recognize a 2008 accident at a substation in which its assets were damaged as an insurable event and to recover from the company 109.456 million rubles.

The company did not recognize FGC UES's claims. It said in the hearings that Glavsetservice UNEG, its 100-percent-owned subsidiary, was repairing the substation. The insurance company said the accident was caused by the subsidiary and FGC UES's operation staff.
