MOSCOW, May 31 - RAPSI, Sergei Feklyunin. The Moscow Commercial Court has postponed a 5.01 million ruble claim filed by AST-Press against Yandex until June 6. The publishing house sued the company for violating its exclusive rights on a Russian-language dictionary and claimed over 5 million rubles in compensation, the Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI) reported.

The court postponed the claim to consider the defendant’s petition on combining the claim alongside another AST-Press lawsuit regarding the same dictionary. The publishing house is claiming 300,000 rubles ($10,000) for illegally using a copyrighted symbol.

Earlier, AST-Press told RAPSI that Yandex illegally downloaded the dictionary’s electronic version published on its Yandex/Dictionaries page in 2008.

Yandex’s lawyers denied the copyright violations.

According to an August report issued by the TNS Research Company, more than 3.7 million people visit Yandex/Dictionaries every month.

The AST-Press publishing house was founded in 1990. The holding company comprises a network of publishing and sales companies, according to the AST-Press website.

Yandex is Russia’s leading Internet search system. According to the company’s preliminary financial results for 2010, its revenues jumped by 43 percent year-on-year to 12.5 billion rubles (roughly $44.673 million).
