MOSCOW, June 7 (RAPSI) – Russian authorities would take all possible actions to gain the release of journalist Kirill Vyshinsky detained in Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin said during the annual television call-in show on Thursday.

Russia banks on the support of international organizations on this matter, the President added.

However, exchange of Vyshinsky and Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov sentenced to 20 years in Russian prison for organizing a terrorist group in Crimea is not in question just yet as their situations are different, Putin noted.

According to the President, Russian journalist was arrested and then detained for his professional journalistic activities. That is unprecedented and inadmissible policy of Ukrainian authorities, he stated. As to Sentsov, he was arrested in Crimea for preparing a terrorist attack which could result in human losses. These cases are disparate, Putin said.

As previously reported, the chief of RIA Novosti Ukraine website Vyshinsky was arrested on May 15 and then put in detention for two months. Ukrainian authorities accuse him of treason. The journalist could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov was sentenced to 20 years in prison by Russian court in August 2015. Investigators found that Sentsov started a terrorist group in Crimea, a branch of the Right Sector movement that is banned in Russia. He was allegedly promoting Crimea’s secession from Russia. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, Russia’s Federal Security Service prevented the terrorist group from committing several terrorist attacks on the peninsula.
