MOSCOW, January 18 (RAPSI) – The number of applications filed by citizens with Russia’s High Commissioner for Human Rights Tatiana Moskalkova last year remained at the level of 2016, the ombudsman’s press office told RAPSI on Thursday.

In 2016, Moskalkova received 42,549 complaints, the statement reads. The most of applications are connected with social problems and protection of people’s rights in the criminal sphere.

However, about 70% of cases do not require the ombudsman’s intervention. People only have to receive explanation of how they can protect their rights, according to Moskalkova.
