MOSCOW, September 22 (RAPSI) – Over 37,000 violations in the sphere of prison labor have been revealed in Russia since 2015, the Prosecutor General’s Office stated on Friday.

The Prosecutor General’s Office held a panel discussion on status of prosecutor supervision over penitentiary administrations and the implementation of labor legislation. According to prosecutors, some violations of laws regulating prisoners’ labor were ended due to intervention. Numerous violations were made possible due to lack of control over employees by central offices of the Federal Penitentiary Service.

These violations obstructed payments of compensations and fees imposed on convicts by court rulings. In 36 regions inmates did not receive payments for their work. Lethal incidents at the prisoners’ places of work are also high in number: in 2015 there were 16 incidents, in 2016 there were 10 and in the first half of 2017 there were 5.
