MOSCOW, June 23 (RAPSI) – Russian Prosecutor’s General Office plans to create interregional nature-preserving prosecutor’s office in the Far East, RIA Novosti reported on Thursday.

“We decided to create a structure for preserving nature in the Far East, with powers of regional Prosecutor’s Office. I think that it will include territories of the Amur region, Khabarovsk Krai, Primorsky Krai, and, maybe, Sakhalin,” Russian General Prosecutor Yuri Chaika said.

He added that new structure would be similar to the Volga’s nature-preserving prosecutor’s office.

Volga’s nature-preserving prosecutor’s office is a unique structure in Russia. While its central apparatus is located in the city of Tver, the supervised prosecutor’s offices are located in 15 subjects of Russia that feature the river Volga, from its source down to the Caspian Sea. This structure exercises prosecutor's supervision over the implementation of laws aimed at protection of environment and environmental rights of citizens, supervises authorities, local government, environmental regulatory agencies, enterprises, institutions, organizations that function within the Volga basin.
