MOSCOW, March 26 (RAPSI) – The number of terrorism-related crimes decreased by over 60 percent in 2014, President Vladimir Putin said at an FSB board meeting on Thursday.

“We see a positive trend in the fight against terrorism. The number of terrorism-related crimes has decreased by 61.5 percent over the year and by nearly 90 percent over the past five years,” Putin said.

Success depended on cooperation between the FSB and the other law enforcement agencies under the guidance of the National Anti-terrorism Committee, Putin said.

He urged law enforcement authorities to put a tighter squeeze on terrorist organizations.

Rooting out terrorism is not a simple task, Putin said. “These criminals bite back and carry out new attacks,” he added.
