MOSCOW, October 28 (RAPSI) – Police are inspecting a hand-set retailer whose staff is suspected of having defrauded dozens of clients, RIA Novosti learned at the Interior Ministry’s department for Moscow on Tuesday.

According to media reports, about 50 clients of that outlet who prepaid for the delivery of a new-generation iPhone found that the outlet has been closed.

The shop sold the iPhone 6 for 20,000 rubles (about $477), which is about 33 percent less than the official price.

“Some 50 people have come to a police station in Moscow’s central district to file complaints about the fraud. We are considering opening a criminal case,” a police officer told RIA Novosti.

Apple releases a new iPhone model every fall, and every year fraudsters capitalize on people’s desire to save on a new model. They offer phones at a reduced price, collect prepayment and vanish.
