MOSCOW, August 26 (RAPSI) – A Russian court will decide on the fate of Jack Daniel’s whiskeys after is was revealed that they did not meet the required standards, Anna Popova, Head of Russia’s food safety watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, told journalists Tuesday.

“The final decision will be made by a court,” Popova said.

The issue was raised after laboratory tests carried out by the Sverdlovsk regional department of Rospotrebnadzor showed that Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Liqueur contained substance that causes allergic reactions and affects the nervous system.

A series of lab tests have exposed benzyl ethers of benzoic acid contained in the Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Liqueur. This substance is widely used as an acaricide and can cause allergic reactions, affect the central and peripheral nervous systems, according to the agency.

Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey and Jim Beam American Whiskey Bourbon produced in the United States were ordered to be removed from sale for alleged failure to comply with safety requirements.

Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey wasn’t verified as compliant with the Standard Sanitary Regulations, according to the agency.
Administrative cases were opened against the stores that were selling the beverages.
