MOSCOW, January 16 (RIA Novosti) – More than 18 kilograms of heroin have been seized from a group of drug police officers in Siberia, investigators said Thursday.

Earlier reports said the group, which included six anti-drug officers and one policeman, tried to organize a drug supply route from Central Asia to Siberia.

According to the Investigative Committee, the suspects bought heroin late last year and used some of it to create fake results in drug trafficking cases. The detentions are still underway.

Russia's anti-drugs czar Viktor Ivanov said in June 2103, that about 8 million Russians use drugs and almost 150,000 people have been jailed for drug-related crimes. The UN says Russia, a nation of 142 million people, accounts for about a fifth of the world's heroin consumption.
