MOSCOW, December 2 (RAPSI) – The number of crimes commited under the influence of drugs in Russia has doubled in the past five years, First Deputy Interior Minister Alexander Gorovoy said Monday during a State Duma round-table discussion.

“The number of crimes commited under the influence of drugs has increased more than twice,” he noted while speaking during a State Duma round-table discussion on drug prevention

Gorovoy added that this figure has grown by 20% compared to 2012. Over 130,000 drug users including approximately 7,000 teens have been registered at the moment, he said.

According to statistics provided by the Justice Ministry, the number of crimes committed under the influence of alcohol or drugs is growing by over 10% every year.

Russia's anti-drugs czar Viktor Ivanov said in June that about 8 million Russians use drugs and almost 150,000 people have been jailed for drug-related crimes. The UN says Russia, a nation of 142 million people, accounts for about a fifth of the world's heroin consumption.
