MOSCOW, July 10 (RAPSI) - Egypt's ousted president Mohamed Morsi is in a "safe place", and no charges have been brought against him yet, AFP reports on Wednesday, citing the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

"Morsi is being held in a safe place for his own security and is being treated respectfully," Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdelatty told reporters. "He has not been charged with anything so far," he said.

Earlier reports said Morsi was being kept in the army's custody following his overthrow by the military. The Prosecutor General's Office said he would remain in custody until the investigation was completed. Investigators suspect Morsi of obstructing justice.

Last week, the Egyptian army deposed Morsi, temporarily suspended the countrys constitution and appointed Supreme Constitutional Court head Adli Mansour as interim leader.
