ANKARA, June 10 (RAPSI) - Turkish police have arrested 13 people in the city of Adana in southern Turkey over accusations of using social media to call for protests and anti-government demonstrations, the Anadolu News Agency has reported.

According to media reports, the arrested individuals have been accused of calling for smashing public buildings and personal cars, and attacking the police. The agency has not mentioned what penalty the arrested individuals may face if found guilty.

The anti-government unrest that began with the Gezi Park protests in Istanbul has continued for two weeks. Protesters are demonstrating against the growing Islamic influence in the country and claim that the authorities are interfering in the lives of ordinary citizens.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has claimed that the protests are staged by extremists, and said the government will not stand any violence and provocations.  In the past few days, the level of tensions has decreased.

However, periodic clashes with the police still occur.
