MOSCOW, March 12 - RAPSI. Human Rights Ombudsman Vladimir Lukin and Presidential Commissioner for Entrepreneurs' Rights Boris Titov have proposed limiting the pretrial detention period.

Luin and Titov proposed amending the Criminal Procedure Code to introduce a maximum term for keeping a suspect in remand, without any provisos allowing for its extension by court order.

The document was sent to the president and circulated among reporters.

The ombudsmen also proposed amending the article that prohibits a judge from considering a criminal case in the first or second instance or appeals court, as well as from reconsidering a case in the first or second instance court, if that judge ruled earlier to place the suspect in remand or to extend the pretrial detention period.
