MOSCOW, March 23 - RAPSI. A Moscow official suspected of involvement in the city budget embezzlement case left for Spain, Oleg Mitvol, the former deputy head of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources, told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

Earlier, the Interior Ministry's Main Department of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption reported that the police officers revealed an embezzlement of more than 200 million rubles ($6.79million) from the Moscow budget. The funds were allocated for developing Moscow parks.

According to the ministry, the gang comprises officials of the Moscow Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Department, Bureau for Economical Analysis of Environmental Projects and a number of commercial organizations.

"A suspect was in Moscow during the searches, but after them he left Russia... It is unclear how he managed to leave for Spain without facing any obstacles. Everyone knew he has a permit to live in Spain," Mitvol said.

A source in the ministry confirmed RIA Novost the information that the main suspect of the criminal case went abroad.

He is outside Russia according to our information, a source said.
