MOSCOW, September 26 - RAPSI. Investigators have placed a cyber criminal on the federal wanted list for a mobile phone scam, the Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti on Monday.

The suspect is Leonid Sidorov, who was a university student before the charges were made against him.

He and his accomplices used special equipment to unlawfully attain access to and modify mobile service providers' information and modify it. They then entered data on fee-based calls and text messages. The providers had to pay the companies that owned the numbers called. The companies remitted the funds to accounts controlled by the hackers, according to the investigators.

They traveled in a minivan painted with adverts about Moscow and made 5 to 10 minute stops in crowded locations. Mobile phones in the vicinity automatically came under their control.

Estimates show that the hackers could have inflicted millions of dollars in damages.
