MOSCOW, August 24 - RAPSI. Investigators have obtained information on the suspected mastermind behind the 2006 murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya, Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

"Investigators have information on the suspected mastermind of the crime, but consider it premature to publicize this information," he said.
On Tuesday, it was discovered that the Central Investigative Board of the Investigative Committee detained the suspected organizer of Politkovskayas murder, former police Lt. Col. Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov.

"Today, the Investigative Committee intends to file a petition for a warrant to arrest Pavlyuchenkov," Markin said.

Politkovskaya, well-known for her investigative journalism on human rights offenses in Chechnya, was killed in the elevator of her home on Lesnaya Street in Moscow, on October 7, 2006. Investigators have stated they believe her journalism fed the motive for her murder.
