MOSCOW, February 4 (RAPSI) – The Federation Council Commission on Information Policy had proposed to amend the legislation to the effect that social networks could be blocked for calls to take part in unauthorized actions, senator Alexey Pushkov informed at a briefing on Thursday.

The provisional Commission is of the opinion that it is necessary to improve the Russian legislation with the aim to prevent the use of social media for mobilization of citizens with the purpose to commit unlawful acts. The Commission also finds it necessary to introduce a system of punishments for the said offences ranging from respective fines to be introduced to the Code of Administrative Offences to temporal or constant blocking of internet platforms, Pushkov noted.

The senators believe that foreign internet companies are directly or indirectly used for the purposes of committing potentially punishable acts when announcing unauthorized rallies of January 23 and 31.
