MOSCOW, April 19 (RAPSI) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed amendments to the national Criminal Procedure Code introducing prohibition of certain actions as a new measure of restraint, the document published on the official website of legal information reads.

According to the amendments, prohibition of certain actions may be chosen as measure of restraint if other options are not available.

A court may prohibit a suspect or a defendant, among other measures, from leaving the home at certain times of day; visit certain places or be near them; visit and participate in certain events; communicate with certain people; drive vehicles; use the Internet and email. The prohibition may be enforced at any stage of criminal proceedings.

At the same time, a suspect or a defendant may not be prohibited from calling an ambulance, law enforcement officers, emergency services or using a telephone to communicate with investigators and other representatives of authorities.

In case of violating the court order, a harsher measure of restraint may be enforced.
