MOSCOW, May 25 (RAPSI) – The Russian Government has approved a bill on toughened responsibility for stealing property from a bank account as well as theft of a digital currency, the government’s website reads on Thursday.

The bill introduces changes to the Criminal Code of Russia by establishing criminal liability for these crimes and for fraud involving electronic payment. In addition, criminal punishment may be introduced for fraudulent accumulation of data classified as commercial, tax or banking secret.

On April 26, Prosecutor General Yury Chaika said that number of cybercrimes in Russia doubled in 2016 and reached more than 42,000 instances.
