MOSCOW, May 4 (RAPSI) – Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that unseats Russian lawmakers from their positions for failing to meet their obligations for more than 30 days, RIA Novosti reported on Wednesday.

According to the law, a lawmaker’s status may be lost by decision of the State Duma if his or her political party or parliamentary committee initiates such procedure. The State Duma’s Ethics Commission is to be responsible for finding out the grounds for early termination of a lawmaker’s powers.

Earlier the chairman of the Federation Council’s Regulation Committee, Vadim Tyulpanov, said that such measures may be proposed in regional parliaments as well.

The Federation Council’s Constitutional Committee members earlier claimed that this law will introduce additional guarantee of continuous functioning of the State Duma.
