MOSCOW, October 6 (RAPSI) – A group of Russian lawmakers drafted a bill that would prohibit public officials from using Google, Yahoo and WhatsApp services, Izvestia newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The bill will be submitted to the State Duma soon, the newspaper writes.

The authors of the legislation, Mikhail Marchenko and Vadim Solovyov, have drafted the document following a request of Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, to take measures for prohibiting Russian officials from using these services. Software tools of foreign intelligence have been found in the governmental information systems, Patrushev said.

According to the bill, a public official could face fines or resignation from his or her position for violation of the ban.

The initiative was supported by the members of the Federation Council, the newspaper writes.
