MOSCOW, April 28 (RAPSI) – The government has submitted a bill to the State Duma on improving the supervision of religious organizations with foreign financing, according to the statement posted on the government’s website on Tuesday.

An explanatory note to the bill says it would differentiate inspections by giving the Justice Ministry and its regional branches the power to audit the financial performance of religious organizations if they are suspected of involvement in extremism or terrorism, or other violations of the Russian law, or receive foreign financing.

The bill would also require religious organizations that receive financial and property assistance from foreign or international organizations, foreign nationals or stateless persons to submit reports on their performance, management bodies and foreign financing to the Justice Ministry.

The bill amending the federal law On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organizations has been drafted to improve the system of supervision of the financial and economic operation of religious organizations.

The bill was discussed at a government meeting on April 23, 2015.
