MOSCOW, June 23 (RAPSI) – The Russian government has forwarded a bill on ratifying the Tripartite Consultation (International Labor Standards) Convention to the State Duma, the government said on its website Monday.

“This convention provides for the free election of employer and employee representatives to the consultation agencies and their equal representation in these agencies,” the statement reads.

In late May, the Governmental legislative commission proposed ratifying the convention and exchanging experience with foreign counterparts. The Tripartite Consultation Convention was adopted at the 61st session of the ILO General Conference in Geneva in 1976 and became effective in 1978.

The Russian government said that national legislation met the requirements of the convention, because the Trilateral Commission on the Regulation of Social and Labor Relations is the main agency tasked with connecting the government with social organizations and movements in Russia. The commission also studies international experience and attends international events on social and labor relations and social partnership.

The Russian government discussed and approved the bill on June 5, 2014.
