MOSCOW, October 12 - RAPSI. The State Duma believes it is unnecessary for users to be obliged to enter their passport details to sign up to a social network.

According to media reports on Thursday, the State Duma Information Policy Committee intends to propose a bill as part of the fight against cyber crime which will make it necessary for users to provide their passport details when signing up to a social network. The idea was put forward by Liberal-Democratic Deputy Vadim Dengin.

The committee head Alexei Mitrofanov said it was Dengin's personal initiative.

Mitrofanov said that so far there is no final opinion on this matter. As yet the only consensus in the committee is that Internet censorship is not a necessary measure, but cyber crime must be clamped down on.
