MOSCOW, May 22 - RAPSI. The Supreme Court will introduce a draft law to the State Duma proposing to relieve individuals who forfeit illegally possessed arms from criminal liability, even if they had used those weapons to commit crimes, the court told the Russian Legal Information Agency on Tuesday.

"The bill will bring greater transparency and certainty to the criminal law which states that an individual who voluntarily gives up his arms will be relieved from criminal liability, regardless of whether he committed other crimes using those same arms," judge Vladimir Davidov said.

He added that presently courts treat such cases variously; some continue the prosecution of the accused, while others relieve them from responsibility.

The judge noted that the amendments will indicate the high priority of removing small arms from illegal possession.
