MOSCOW, June 27 (RAPSI) - Voronezh activist has developed draft amendments to Article 14 of the Family Code, which propose that Russian should be prohibited from marrying for more than three times, Gazeta.ru has reported.

According to the draft law author, Yevgeny Mazepin, the document is planned to be introduced through the deputies of the State Duma's related Committee on Family, Women and Children chaired by Yelena Mizulina.

"The draft amendments aim at forming a more serious attitude towards family and marriage in the society and reducing divorces," Mazepin said.

The draft law implies that the fourth and further marriages are to be registered only in a legal proceeding and under special circumstances.

Meanwhile, Olga Batalina, first deputy chair of the Committee on Family, Women and Children, is not familiar with Mazepin and believes this initiative is "questionable."

"This public figure has for some reason decided to refer to our committee. I doubt any of the deputies will decide to introduce such a questionable initiative," Batalina wrote in her Twitter post.

The initiative is "weird and has no prospects," she concluded.
