Russia seeks extradition of doctor Blum accused of athlete defrauding
MOSCOW, March 1 (RAPSI) – Russian prosecutors have forwarded a request for extradition of doctor Evgeny Blum charged with embezzling over 29 million rubles (about $400,000) from snowborder Maria Komissarova (Chaadayeva) to the Spanish Justice Ministry, the Prosecutor General’s Office informs RAPSI.
According to investigators, between 2014 and 2015, Blum abused the confidence of the athlete, who had been badly injured during one of the sports contests, and fraudulently stole the money from her. He promised that his treatment would help her recover but there was no effect. In August 2020, he was put on the international wanted list upon the order of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office.
Blum was arrested in Spain on February 11.
