MOSCOW, November 17 (RAPSI) – The Yaroslavl Regional Court has sentenced Alexander Avdeyev, the murderer of an abbot of the local Holy Trinity Danilov monastery, to 15 years in high-security prison, the Investigative Committee’s press service reports.

The defendant has been found guilty of murder, theft and home invasion.

According to case papers, on July 7, 2016, ex-monastery worker Avdeyev acting from mercenary motives knifed abbot Daniil 25 times in body, head and neck that resulted in the victim’s death. The defendant took the abbot’s money in the amount of 1.1 million rubles (about $14,500) and left the crime scene.
