MOSCOW, July 30 (RAPSI) – The number of crimes committed with the use of information and telecom in Russia increased by 91.7% over the first six months of 2020, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office informs on Thursday.

Although the total number of crimes registered in the first half of 2020 was somewhat below the figures observed in the same period of the preceding year, the number of cybercrimes grew by 91.7%, the statement reads.

A significant rise was registered with respect to the number of criminal cases suspended because suspects or defendants had no real opportunity to participate in the respective criminal proceedings, the statement notes; prosecutors had to reverse 225,900 orders of investigators and inquiry officers suspending preliminary probes into criminal cases.

On Thursday, the Prosecutor General’s Office held a staff conference on the results of the body’s activities in the first six months of 2020 attended by officials of the Presidential Administration, Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, his deputies, heads of directorates of the Prosecutor General’s Office headquarters, and regional prosecutors.
