MOSCOW, July 29  (RAPSI) – An appeals military court will consider appeals against sentence passed on seven members of a St. Petersburg cell of a group known as Set, meaning Network, banned in Russia as terrorist, on September 2, according to a statement of the advocacy group Agora.

In February, the Privolzhsky District Military Court found Arman Sagynbayev, Dmitry Pchelintsev, Ilya Shakursky, Vasily Kuksov, Andrey Chernov, Mikhail Kulkov, Maxim Ivankin guilty of participation in a terrorist community and sentenced them to jail terms ranging from 6 to 18 years.

According to investigators, the terrorist group members plotted to overthrow the government and commit terrorist attacks.

The defendants pleaded not guilty insisting that earlier confessed under torture.
