Foreign media outlets fail to comply with Russian court ruling in favor of Deripaska

MOSCOW, December 13 (RAPSI) – Three foreign media outlets fail to comply with the ruling of an earlier Krasnodar Regional Commercial Court ruling in favor of Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska in a business reputation dispute by the deadline the court has set.

On October 25, the commercial court granted Deripaska’s claim against two British media outlets Times Newspapers Ltd and Telegraph Media Group Limited and American The Nation Company LLC. The ruling could be challenged, but the defendants failed to lodge appeals. The defendants or their lawyers also were absent in court during the hearing.

The plaintiff asked the court to recognize statements published by the media about him as being at variance with the facts, demanded removal of publications from the Internet and refutation of the distributed information.

Reportedly, these media outlets have published statements that led to imposing U.S. sanctions of Deripaska.

It is not the first time Deripaska has sued foreign media.

In October 2017, the U.S. Federal District Court of Columbia dismissed his defamation lawsuit against the Associated Press (AP) news agency over an article about alleged interference of Russia in U.S. Presidential elections. The contested article stated that the Russian entrepreneur paid for services of Paul Manafort, former campaign manager for Donald Trump.
