MOSCOW, November 21 (RAPSI) – The Vladivostok Garrison Military Court has sentenced the chief of a navy clinical hospital’s department of surgery, medical service lieutenant colonel Alexander Shcheglovsky, to a 400,000-ruble fine (over $6,000) for the death of a patient, the Investigative Committee’s press service has told RAPSI

The court has found him guilty of infliction of death by negligence due to misconduct by a professional person.

The doctor has been also prohibited from practicing medicine for 2 years, the statement reads.

According to case papers, on May 9, 2018, Shcheglovsky performed a planned operation for removal of the gallbladder. However, he failed to detect sequela after the surgery that resulted in the patient’s death.
