MOSCOW, November 20 (RAPSI) – A court in Vladivostok, a city in Russia’s Far East, has sentenced a former lawyer, who had promised a citizen to influence investigators’ decisions and court rulings, to 4 years in penal colony, the website of the Prosecutor General’s Office informs Wednesday.

The defendant has been found guilty of fraud. In addition to the jail term, he has been ordered to pay a 420,000-ruble fine ($6,500) and banned from practicing law for 2.5 years.

According to the statement, in 2016, a citizen applied to the attorney to receive legal services for his prosecuted friend. The lawyer demanded 1 million rubles ($15,600) from him for changing a measure of restraint and reclassification of charges and pot the money. Later, he demanded 1.5 million rubles (about $23,500) more from the individual.
