MOSCOW, November 6 (RAPSI) – Moscow’s Savelovsky District Court on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit filed by activist Alena Popova against the Moscow City Government and Russia’s Interior Ministry over the face-recognition system, RAPSI reported from the courtroom.

The woman petitioned for the prohibition of the system in Moscow as illegal and removal of biometric personal data from the citizen image database. The plaintiff believes that her biometric information was collected and used by law enforcement during her single protest action in defense of victims of domestic violence home near the State Duma in April 2018.

After her picket, Popova was fined 20,000 rubles (over $300). During the trial, the court was shown lists from video records, containing the zoomed image of her face. That’s why, she claims that the state uses the face-recognition system in violation of law, without her consent.
