ST. PETERSBURG, September 30 (RAPSI , Mikhail Telekhov) – A criminal case against priest Georgy Sychev and his wife charged with the AIDS-caused death of their daughter due to maltreatment had been dropped because of the expiry of the period of limitations, Igor Sidorenko, an assistant of the priest, told RAPSI on Monday.

The couple stayed charged with infliction of death by negligence and child endangerment, as investigators believed that their adopted girl died in 2017 because they failed to provide her the anti-AIDS treatment prescribed by medics, who monitored the girl’s health since 2007.

In his turn, the priest disputed the charges and the position of Russia’s Investigative Committee saying the girl underwent medical treatment in Germany; however, the illness just could not be cured.

The couple’s lawyer moved for the dropping of the case; the prosecution had no objections.
